The couple actually got engaged last year in August after rekindling their love when they met in the same year in April. This week they went out with their friends and family to celebrate their birth month and that us when Andile surprised his DJ fiancée with a new engagement ring.
Lady Du shared the news on her Instagram, with a video of the 'proposal' in which she was crying tears of joy.
"We got engaged last year august, 3 months into the relationship. I’ve never been sooo happy my entire life. Today he decided to upgrade my ring. It’s our birthday month, since I’m busy he and my brother @siphosomething planned all this. @andilemx I love you king I really have no words."
Lady Du is well-known for her amapiano tracks 'Dakiwe' and 'Catalia' and she features in Umsebenzi Wethu by Busta 929, Mpura, Mr JazziQ, Reece Madlisa, and Zuma, as a vocalist.
Born in Voslorus, the 30-year-old musician is the daughter of veteran R&B DJ Choc, and her uncle is DJ Zan D. Although music was her first love, she studied Somatology in London and spent a year traveling over 100 countries as a somatologist and skin therapist on a cruise ship.
She ditched this career path in 2016 and focused solely on music, but things were not coming together. Because bills were piling up, she took up a job in the corporate space and even sold her house for a smaller apartment. She had struggled so much with trying to break into ghe industry that she had given up and wanted to end her life.
"I became incredibly depressed about my situation. I had quit my job because I wasn’t happy. The music was not going anywhere, and family was pushing me to start a business or go corporate. But all I wanted was music,” she told Drum Magazine in March.
In 2020 she met Mr JazziQ and that is when she finally got her big break. It was in the same year that she met her now fiancé Andile Mxakaza who she had dated briefly 12 years ago.
“We dated 12 years ago but for only four months, and we rekindled the relationship in April last year. But we are in no rush to get married yet; we still have our whole lives ahead of us,” she was quoted as saying.
She added that he also sent a letter to her family shortly after their proposal in order to start with the lobolo negotiations.
