We can finally close 2020, because clearly in the year that had the most surprises, twists and turns has continued to give us more of the same. This time it was all DJ Maphorisa and his most surprising move; actually giving credit to someone either than himself.

In his latest tweet the leader of BlaqBoy Music went on Twitter and credited the legendary kwaito artist, Tokollo Magesh, for being a pioneer that eventually gave rise to the now dominant house music sub-genre, amapiano. DJ Maphorisa shared an image of the first group that Magesh was a part of called Mashamplani. The late 1990s all-male group consisted of kwaito legends like Mdu Masilela. The legend has now become South Africa’s favourite Uncle Bae, but he also has a catalogue that cannot be rivaled.
Not much is known about the whereabouts of the kwaito legend. And unlike members of his second legendary kwaito group, TKZee; Kabelo Mabalane and Zwai Bala that have stayed in front of the cameras and the spotlight years after the group came to an end.  Magesh has kept a low profile as the musician last posted on Instagram in May of this year, and before that he had last posted on the app back in 2018. With no news that anything unfortunate has happened to him, it means he can still receive flowers.

But surprise was the fact that DJ Maphorisa can actual give credit to someone that is not himself.  Think about, this is the same man that dragged his Twitter best frenemy, Prince Kaybee, for having two amapaino inspired songs on his current project, "Project Hope, Season 1" album.

Moreover, this is the same man that is said to not want his musical partner, Kabza De Small to flourish alone. Every time Kabza is celebrated without him, we will be reminded that if it was not for him and getting Kabza out of the bad contract he was in, we would not be living through the amapiano era.
The Scorpion Kings are currently out of the country and are in Tanzania. His last post on his traveling experience was to reflect on how empty terminal A is. In a picture he showed how there was literally almost no one around him. It seems that despite the opening of international borders and the commencement of international travel, many South Africans are fine taking Sho’lefts and making sure they do not catch the Rona.
