Somizi Mhlongo is one of Mzansi’s most wholesome celebrities, which is part of why he has such a fiercely loyal fan base. But it also helps that he often gives fans a glimpse into his celebrity friendships, which show how much of a good, supportive friend he is.
He recently warmed hearts when he shared a video of himself and Lerato Kganyago at an event. In the video, LKG was on the decks, with Somizi beside her. As she did her thing on the decks, Somizi said something that made her laugh, after which the two went on to dance to LKG’s fire set.
But it was the caption he attached to the video that got Mzansi howling with laughter. He asked someone to come remove LKG, as she was ruining his set. Fans were amused as Somizi is clearly not a DJ, everybody knows it, but everyone appreciates his sense of humour.
The actor recently left everyone in stitches when he shared a video of himself MC-ing an event. In the video, he spoke Afrikaans for all of one minute, after which he ran out of words in the language and moved on. Fans couldn’t get enough of how bad his Afrikaans is, even though he declared that his rate would be going up as he had mastered MC-ing in the language.
After the video of himself with LKG, Somizi fans are in awe of how he keeps his celebrity circle tight. They have asked both of them to nurture their friendship, which we all love to see.
But Lerato is not the only celebrity that Somizi is great friends with. The choreographer recently graced Cassper Nyovest’s birthday extravaganza which also doubled as a celebration of the rapper’s premium alcoholic drink, Billiato.
Somizi shared a video of himself and Cassper taking pictures at the event. He reached out and got a glass for each of them, then held it for Cass as he fixed his chain. Somizi captioned it saying he would never get tired of supporting people, including his friends and strangers alike. Cass responded saying Somizi is a gem, and we can’t help but agree with him.
The celebrity chef is clearly the king of ZAleb friendships. He is known to be besties with both Vusi Nova and Kelly Khumalo. And it looks like his love for his friends inspires a fierce loyalty to him in return.
Earlier this year, Kelly declined to attend an event in Zimbabwe because of Somizi. He was booked to grace the reopening of a restaurant, but the churches of the country barred him from entering because of his sexuality. They invited Kelly to take his place instead, but the singer refused to attend in solidarity with Somizi. Talk about friendship goals.
We can all stand to learn a thing or two from Somizi and how he lives his life. He seems to wear his heart on his sleeve, particularly with friendships, and we love to see it. It is also beautiful that he has cultivated such mature and mutually supportive relationships, and it is our hope that we can all one day learn to love like he has taught us to.
