SABC promises to bail out Muvhango actors

We wish we could send some generous amounts of Disprin to our friends at the SABC; they MUST have some big headaches right now. It's bad enough that the long-running Generations saga has dominated headlines in the last few weeks, but now the SABC has to deal with a Muvhango issue that is slowly boiling over. The actors from SABC 2's popular soapie have not been paid in a month and are now threatening to strike if things do not change.

The threat sounds all too familiar; it was around this time last year that the Generations actors protested their salaries in the form of a long running strike. Amanda Ngudle, who is the publicist for the soapie, confirmed that the actors had yet to receive compensation for their efforts in September of this year.

SABC seems to handle drama best when it's on television; obviously keen to keep it on our screens, the national broadcaster has vowed to resolve this situation in due time. SABC Spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, spoke to the press and confirmed that they would be paid by the 18th of October.

"We have intervened and we will launch an investigation to find out what caused the delay. We will make a payment to the production house early next week, thereafter they will be able to pay the cast.”

It sounds like they will stick to their word, too; however the affected actors on the cast of Muvhango might want to tread carefully when considering the prospect of a strike. The long-running strike is what eventually led to Generations creator, Mfundi Vundla, taking matters into his own hands and canning the entire cast. Muvhango actors will want to avoid the same fate.
