Thabang Tbo Touch Molefe made his comeback to Metro FM yesterday with his drivetime show the Touchdown and has been trending for a full day after the show debuted. Every South African ear was glued on Metro FM during the 15:00 to 18:00 slot yesterday as Touch made his first show with the station after 6 years a huge success.
He started engaging the audience on Twitter asking them to suggest a song he was going to kick off his show with. The #TouchDown started dominating trends on Twitter even before the show started.
In a tweet he shared with a short clip of him holding a microphone, Touch wrote to his fans and supporters: “I truly never saw this day coming. I want to thank each and every one of you for giving me a reason to go back. This is for you”
Many people were surprised by Tbo Touch’s return to the national broadcaster as he had mentioned in numerous interviews in the past that it would take a lot of convincing for him to come back to the station. And it seems it did indeed take a good offer for Touch to agree to do the Touchdown once again. The monthly salary that Metro is allegedly paying Molefe is said to be R480K plus a R30K monthly car allowance.
Tbo Touch is joined on his drivetime show by Angie Khumalo in News and traffic. The Touch Down promises to be a huge success and continues to flock to the station with a wider reach.
The seasoned radio broadcaster opened his show in a way we expect from him with a short prayer by his mother as a way to show appreciation to the almighty and of course his mother and then got straight into a Hip Hop dominated playlist throughout the show.
Known for only interviewing the best in the game both locally and internationally, it is no surprise that Touch’s first guest upon his return was an American songwriter and producer Tay Keith who gave the time out of his busy schedule to hang out and speak to Touch. He also had a successful simulcast with a drivetime host from the biggest station in Africa, Ukhozi FM. These two media giants for stations joined forces with Tshata from Ukhozi FM end, and Touch from Metro merging millions of live listeners with great content.
Tbo Touch received a warm welcome back to the airwaves from a lot of his peers in the media industry such as the Kings of the Week Sphe and Naves whom he took over from, a personal shout out from the Queen Bonang Matheba on Twitter, and DJ Sbu also showing love to the radio presenter. He did a short interview with MoFlava and Khutso Theledi on Metro FM’s new breakfast show titled “Wake Up on Metro” where he spoke a little about what to expect on the show.
Radio fanatics, fans, and followers of Thabang Molefe shared their love and support for “your boy” stating that this is the best decision for Metro FM to bring Tbo Touch back on the radio. Some added that the show was doing really well with the music especially because of how South African radio stations seem to only be playing Amapiano more than the other genres.
