This week’s #TBT goes out to all the South African football players who’ve blessed us with memorable guest appearances on kwaito songs.

Do you guys remember a time when our local footballers would bless us with the most epic guest verses on kwaito tracks? A time when, out of nowhere, you’d see your favourite star switch the football pitch for the recording booth?

Ahh, those were fun times.

Bob Mabena ft. Doctor Khumalo - Get Funky

This jam was huge in the 90s. Firstly, who knew radio-man Bob Mabena could rhyme? Secondly, how about Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo's... err... unique verse? Either way, we love this classic.

Mzambiya ft. Steve Lekoelea - Number 10

This song paid homage to the great number 10s South African football has produced over the years. A young Mzambiya (whose voice had barely broken, mind you) recruited the lyrical services of Orlando Pirates' midfield maestro Steve Lekoelea.

TKZee ft. Benni McCarthy - Shibobo

This might just be the biggest collaboration between kwaito and football ever. At the time, the France 1998 World Cup fever pitch was high, Bafana Bafana were about to compete in their first ever World Cup, TKZee were the biggest Kwaito act, and Benni McCarthy was one of South Africa's most promising footballing prospects.
