Another Skeem Saam actor has ditched acting for greener pastures. Actor and Limpopo Artist Movement chairman Mpho Mashabela is venturing into politics.
The multi-talented artist told Daily Sun that he is running as an independent candidate. Mpho told the publication that he was inspired by the former DA leader Mmusi Maimane.

“I’m contesting ward 12 in Mahwelereng. I was nominated by friends who felt I could represent this ward as I understood its challenges. I was also motivated by One South Africa Movement leader Mmusi Maimane as he’s been supporting local leaders to contest elections independently,” 

Mpho is eyeing the councilor sit in Mokopane. He told the publication that he plans to focus on youth employment and basic delivery such as healthcare.

The former Skeem Saam actor made his debut on the show back in 2018 playing the character of Setati. He was introduced to the viewers as a client of Big Boy Mabitsela.

Another Skeem Saam star who recently announced his departure is Cornet Mamabolo who played the role of T'bose on the show.

The actor and businessman said he wanted to focus on his insurance company that he founded back in 2014.

Sharing the news on Instagram, he said: “This is my official break from your screens as Tbose Maputla… thanks for all the support you have shown me over the years, I mean I literally matured to be the man I’m today before your eyes.

"This is a break for me to primarily focus on my insurance business; Digni Financial Services @dignifinancialservices Thanks Sis Winnie, SABC, cast & Crew for carrying me over the years. Till we meet again.”

Cornet also shared an official statement from Skeem Saam that reads, “From the 14th of September 2021, Cornet Mamabolo will be taking a break from Skeem Saam to focus on his personal interests. His decision comes at a time where he intends on making his insurance company the first priority during his interval.” Read the statement.

After announcing his exit, the actor had a live session titled heart to heart exit on Instagram with his fans. He was later joined by his co-star Mogau Motlhatswi.

The star shared that he was under a lot of pressure when he short his final scene. He said it was a one-take scene, “When I shot that scene, I had so much pressure. You know, I had this thing in my mind, that you are only as good as your last performance ... as good as your last show. So I was like, I'm taking a break from this show and this is the scene where I am leaving. It was so difficult for me to tap into emotions ...” he said.
