Therefore, it was a surprise to many when it was confirmed that Ankletap was not only bowing out from hosting the popular breakfast show. But that he was leaving the radio station completely on Friday, 24 March 2023. At the time the announcement was made, YFM shared their official statement on the matter quoting Ankletap bidding farewell when stating:
“The day I entered the Programming Manager’s office for the first time, I knew that Y would be my home. I have dedicated 12 years of my life to this brand and believe that the time has come to make way for a new generation of talent to take the reins. I believe in Y and in the talent here. I will miss the Y Mornings listeners, but I know I am leaving them in good hands. I will always hold Y in my heart.”
In light of his departure, there was speculation about where he was going. However, no one was ever prepared for the reveal.
DJ Ankletap joins YouFM
At the height of the speculation about where DJ Ankletap was moving to following his departure from YFM, the broadcaster had teased on social media the multiple options he had. As reported:
…Friend and fellow broadcaster Sol Phenduka during an episode of Podcast and Chill suggested that through watching the easter eggs that Ankletap was sharing via social media, it seemed that he was going to East Coast Radio.
However, Ankletap then took the mickey out of the moment by suggesting that this was not true. Moreover, that he was actually moving to Kaya959 and was set to replace Sol and Dineo on their popular Kaya959 Breakfast show. But Sol, who does not like being wrong, took to Twitter to rubbish the tweet.
But Ankletap’s reveal on Friday, 24 March 2023 was the biggest surprise as he did not go to any major radio station. However, his move was a full-circle moment. This is as he took to Instagram to confirm that he was moving to YouFM, which he considered a homecoming.
