Entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela took to his social media to confirm that the Metro FM breakfast team helmed by veteran broadcaster MoFlava, and Khutso Tsaledi as the co-host has been axed. The axing of the two comes as their breakfast show has not brought in numbers as it is competing with the likes of Anele and The Breakfast Club and the newly introduced but popular 959 Breakfast with Dineo and Sol.
Therefore, as the announcement was made, not many radio listeners were surprised that MoFlava and Khutso were axed. Allegedly, their axing is meant to make way for the new incoming DJ Sabby and Skhumba duo, who will replace the two.
In light of the announcement of the new roster, it has been confirmed that Sabelo “DJ Sabby” Mtshali will replace Mo Flava and Khutso Theledi, who was not fired but moved to helm The Bridge. As such, DJ Sabby has shared his intentions with his new and challenging radio slot.

In the official statement, it announced DJ Sabby taking over the breakfast show by stating:
Sabelo Mtshali known as DJ Sabby, the new host of ‘METRO FM Breakfast’, will be joined by one of South Africa’s dynamic and influential stars, Kandice ‘Kandice Kardash’ Coulsen [who leaves Y.FM along with DJ Ankletap on Friday, 24 March 2023]. The show, broadcast weekdays from 06:00 – 09:00, promises to be high energy, fast-paced and engaging.
As such, DJ Sabby took to Twitter to assert his intentions with the show by sharing in part that:
“Words fail me but I know God has my back and my mama is smiling from the heavens sky. Your mornings are about to become your “Best Mornings” between 6-9am.”
With the official statement on the 2023/2024 Metro FM lineup released, the statement expressed the intention of this lineup by sharing a quote from its Business Manager Ms. Kina Nhlengethwa who stated:
“The station is making a concerted effort in investing in the best talent that will carry its strategy forward. This investment will allow the station to carry out its mandate to both listeners, clients, and strategic stakeholders. We remain committed to delivering exceptional content, with a focus on creativity and innovation.”
However, when it was discovered that Metro FM’s Weekend Breakfast co-host and the host of the Tuesday evening Let’s Talk Host Mantsoe Pout was relegated to the weekend graveyard shift with the show The Boomerang on Saturdays and Sundays between 00:00 and 03:00, some listeners and members of the public felt some type of way about it.
