DJ Tira is a proud father as a movement that he pioneered has resurged and has proven that it was not the dying horse that many thought it was. The king of entertainment in Durban took to Twitter to drag all the haters that alleged the gqom was dead. This past weekend the genre proved that it was not only dead, but missed in the streets.

First, it was allegedly pregnant now certified queen of gqom, Babes Wodumo’s performance as part of the "Fact Durban Rocks" line-up. The musician and dancer proved why gqom is not dead when she released her sophomore album, "Indandokazi," and slayed her performance.

Following right behind her was Mr Thela. For those that did know him before his trending "Lockdown House Party" set with Mshayi, definitely know him now. Not only is he Cape Town based gqom producer and DJ, but Mr Thela produced all the songs he had played during his set. Afterwards he not only trended for his set, but for showcasing that gqom is not a musical sport played by Durbanites but is far reaching.

Essentially, gqom proved that it was not dead at all this past weekend. It also proved that the two South African house sub-genres can co-exist together and provide South African with dancing hits, after the lockdown is over.
