Getting into the entertainment industry is not as hard as it used to be these days. We have a lot of talent search competitions that are aimed at finding new talent and turning people into overnight stars. But the difficult part seems to be staying relevant in this cut-throat industry.
But that has not been a problem for Mbali Mlotshwa, who has been on our TV screens for a decade. She somehow manages to reinvent herself with each role she takes on and proves that she's serious about her craft. Mbali had us marvelling at her talent on Rockville, and, although the third season has ended, the impression she's made on South African viewers will certainly not fade.
The actress, who's expecting her second child, recently took to Instagram to reflect on her journey in the industry. She wrote: "When ur a star but the kind that's not tangible, when u stick out but don't know what to do with what God/Allah/ Unkulunkulu gave you for u are reminded how unworthy you are constantly . When u are your own pillar of strength and finally u and your antisocial weird self find solace in an art the journey of finding self begins at the tender age of 7."
She described acting as her confidant and added: "I've been in this industry for ten years, have shot so many series but must thank #tshisa for giving the break I needed #mojamovieFactory. And #rockville #fergusonFilms for the opportunity to play such a good character."
Mbali said she never stops pushing her performance because she hasn't done her best work yet. "That's in me somewhere waiting to be unleashed, my dreams scare me, trying to reach them drains me .... But soooo what I love my craft. Don't ever believe u can't till the Lord himself says you can't. Work towards your dream not towards being seen make your mark. #IamAnActress #IhaveNotBegun..."
