Social media sensation, Farieda Metsing is one of South Africa's first successful internet stars. The media personality gained popularity when her online videos started getting traction and since then, she has dabbled in presenting and acting on Mzansi Magic's Isithembiso.
The MTV presenter recently announced that she is joining season 5 of SABC 1s hit-show, Uzalo.
In a previous interview on Afternoon Express, Farieda shared how she has always wanted to be an actress:
“I wanted to become an actress for a very long time, it’s been my life long dream but I couldn’t go through the avenues that were needed to get an agent to go through to auditions, so after having studied at AFDA for a year, I was like ok...I can’t continue, let me get an internship. I got an internship at Red Pepper and then I stopped working in 2015.”
The star then went on to explain how her former boss encouraged her to follow her dream:
“My former boss said to me, what’s happening with your acting career, and I said, no one wants to hire me and she said well...use your social media platforms, create a character and that’s how it started.”
Over the past two years, Farieda has created many memorable characters and it is inspiring to see how her stardom blossomed from social media.
Farieda is not the first internet sensation to find success on television, Moshe Ndiki is also another media personality who had his start on social media and since his videos blew up, he has become a presenter, actor and musician.
