As a Frank Ocean fan, today is a very special day for me. It's been officially confirmed that Frank's new album will be releasing in July, and will be entitled Boys Don't Cry.
It's been a relatively quiet three years for the R&B star who broke the internet (Even before Kim broke the internet...) with his last album, Channel ORANGE. Who could forget the emotional journey the singer went through with his fans when he released Thinking 'Bout You, officially came out as a gay man, and then finally released what went on to be a Grammy winning album? It was a great year for Frank and he kind of followed it up with silence.
This year, however, he has been steadily hinting at making a return to the forefront of music, first with his single Memrise and then today, with the announcement of Boys Don't Cry and it's July release date. The singer took to his Tumblr to make the official announcement:
“I got two versions. I got twoooo versions.” #ISSUE1 #ALBUM3 #JULY2015 #BOYSDONTCRY
Here are a few questions that many have been asking about the upcoming album, and some answers based on information we've been able to find:
Will his new tracks be on the album?
Frank has dropped two "loose singles" this year, Memrise and At Your Best ; while it hasn't been confirmed if they are a part of the tracklist, considering that Frank tends to drop singles and then add them to his upcoming works, you can safely assume that at least one of them will be on the album.
Who will be featuring on the album?
Happy Perez, Charlie Gambetta and Kevin Ristro have been 100% confirmed as feature artists in different capacities.
It hasn't been confirmed, but it also looks as if Chance the Rapper will be making an appearance on Boys Don't Cry.
Who will be producing the album?
Frank has been in studio with Hit-Boy, Rodney Jerkins and Danger Mouse during the course of this year.
What does he mean by "Two Versions"?
Frank Ocean's Spokesperson revealed that the singer will be launching his third album as well as the first issue of his magazine in July. Hence the hashtags #Album3 and #Issue1
What do people think?
Twitter has blown up with this news and Frank has been trending since last night! Long live King Franky.
