The actress who shot fame in a number of kiddies shows, will be introduced to Skeem Saam viewers on Freedom Day, 27 April 2021, as she will be portraying the character of ‘Evelyn,’ who seems strange at first, whilst makes a sudden delivery at Charles’ shop.
Hailing from Ga-Mothiba, Evelyn is a former schoolteacher who is intelligent and well-spoken. She is also a zealous reader with a fondness for poetry and meets a man with whom she forms a deep romantic connection. Any guesses as to who the mystery man might be?
The actress said working on the show felt like home, “Working on Skeem Saam has been an amazing journey, filled with such warm welcoming hands from crew to the cast members. It is truly a colorful environment being on set and the fact that most of the stories are set on Polokwane ground makes it feel like home. I’m excited to breathe life into Evelyn, especially on a platform such as this," she says.
Vele has appeared in several other local productions and she always impresses viewers with her acting and charismatic character. Skeem Saam surely wants to spice things up as it was recently reported that the show was experiencing a decline in viewership and according to entertainment blogger Phil Mphela, he reported that show was going on a production break from the 1st of March 2021. The SABC confirmed to Mphela in a statement that the break will not affect the normal day-to-day broadcast of the show.
"The SABC has duly fulfilled its contractual obligations in relation to the production of Skeem Saam. We can also confirm that there is no disruption in transmission," said SABC Spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo.
Skeem Saam had 5.4million views in November and in December it hit 4.4million views. The decline in viewership could have been impacted by the devastating loss of its iconic character, Big Boy Mabitsela who suffered a stroke.
The show had 7.8million viewers In April when he passed away and at the end of 2020, it had already lost millions of viewers. Then the show lost 800k viewers after the departure of its other iconic character, Rachel "Dynamite" Kunutu played by actress, Lesego Marakalla who decided to go back to school full-time.
Congratulations Vele.
