Since the news of former Bafana Bafana midfielder John “Shoes” Moshoeu’s passing broke on Tuesday, many messages of condolence have been flooding social media platforms. Fans and national football players alike have expressed their shock at this great loss for the local soccer fraternity.

The likes of Itumeleng Khune and Simphiwe Tshabalala posted images of the late footballer on their own Instagram accounts.

Soccer Zone anchor Thomas Mlambo expressed that South Africa had lost a great legend who had gone too soon. Mlambo also expressed how important Moshoeu was for Bafana Bafana.

“Shoes and Company” That’s how we spoke of him at his majestic best. Res in Peach John Lesiba (Shoes) Moshoeu” – Mlambo said.

Moshoeu played 73 matches for South Africa.

In February, it was reported that the midfielder was fighting for his life in hospital after his mother, Reena Moshoeu, revealed that her son had been in and out of private hospitals until his medical aid funds ran out.

Details of Moshoeu’s funeral service are yet to be disclosed to the public.
