The independent movie - which is about a young man who takes matters into his own hands by kidnapping his daughter after life, the law, and the woman he once loved separate him from his child - made its debut at the box office on 13 September and, in just five weeks, it has grossed R4.1 million.

"I remember a time when we were told we probably won’t last even a week in cinemas and probably won’t even make 200k because we are independent and weren’t funded by anybody,” said Kagiso Modupe, speaking to Sunday Independent.

The film has performed so well in some cinemas that it has overtaken international films such as J.Lo's Hustlers and Fast and the Furious.

Kagiso said that he is even more proud of the success of the movie because, unlike other movies thst are open to 65 cinemas, they were limited to only 39 cinemas because they are independent and were not seen as credible producers.

"Imagine if we had opened on all 65 cinemas? We would be sitting on R8m now," he adds.
