Media personality, Khanyi Mbau is literally the true definition of all things reinvention and perseverance. The 33 year old was only 19 years old when she clinched the much coveted role of Doobsie in Muvhangoand has grown into other aspects of the entertainment industry.
Although she had acting stints prior to joining Muvhango, it was the role of Doobsie that catapulted her to stardom.
Thereafter, many got glimpses of her acting work on quite a number of Mzansi Magic's short films. Which indicated that home-girl was serious about acting.
In the year 2018, Khanyi Mbau starred and produced a film, Red Room.
The film received mixed reactions from film critics and the public alike. City Press regarded the film as somehow lacking in various aspects, especially the editing and writing.
Fast forward to 2019, The mother of one has bagged herself an award for her stellar portrayal of Zama Marawa in Red Room.
The inaugural South African International Film Academy Awards took place at Gold Reef City recently. However the lady of the moment could not be present at ceremony as she had other commitments on that day - Somizi's wedding!
South African legendary actor, John Kani was in attendance at the awards ceremony and took to Twitter to congratulate Khanyi on her prestigious win. He also shared that the "house" would have loved to see her accept her first award for best actress in a motion picture.
Over the years, Khanyi has spread her talents in other fields within the realm of the entertainment industry including television presenting, producing and even singing (Yep, Sis can hit a note or two y'all! ).
SABC 3's defunct entertainment show, The Scoop, was hosted and executive produced by Khanyi. The producing part was split with other parties on the show, however this must have been an exciting journey for the Soweto born talent!
Congratulations on your win Khanyi. After years of nurturing the craft of acting, it's great to see that all of that hard work has paid off - in a form of an award!
