Bangerz is Miley Cyrus’s fourth studio album and most controversial to date. I have been a fan of the popstar for a while and, when you put the controversy to one side, I have always felt that vocally, this young star is leagues ahead of her peers in the industry. Bangerz did not disappoint my expectations.
Shrewd Atlanta beatmaker, Mike Will Made It, is an executive-producer, but Bangerz is Miley's first offering as the master of her own destiny. Lead singles, We can’t stop and Wrecking Ball have already landed at No. 2 and No. 1 and she has certainly proven that she is a force to be reckoned with in this very competitive industry. Not only that - within its first 24 hours, the video for her first single “We can’t stop” broke VEVO records, raking in 10.7 million views and “Wrecking Ball” went those same records a few months later!.
Bangerz is totally fresh; a refreshing blend of dance hits, ballads and even a track with a great country feel. This album is all the proof we need that Miley won't settle for just shocking us. Lyrically, "Bangerz" explores all the subjects relevant to Miley’s current reality - tales of love, sex, betrayal and heartbreak are ever-present. This may be her most honest work to date – taking into account that she is a young woman finding her feet, flexing her wings and sadly recently ended her engagement to heartthrob movie star Liam Hemsworth.
Miley surrounds herself with a team of industry kingpins. Songs are largely produced by Mike Will and the incredible Pharrell Williams. Many tracks highlight strong collaborations with big names like Britney Spears, Big Sean, Nelly and Ludacris featuring on the album. Many tracks stand out for me – Adore You is poignant and relatable, 4X4 makes me want to find the nearest barn dance and don my favourite pair of cowgirl boots and so many others however for me the star of the LP is #GETITRIGHT – words can’t explain the sheer genius of this track. I just want to play it on repeat and dance around singing on the top of my voice.
Put your preconceived twerking ideas aside and take a chance on this Disney-star gone wild – this album is sensational.
