Mzansi’s latest and fastest rising star, Uncle Waffles, has had a difficult relationship with the country, particularly on social media. But it seems like tweeps are finally having a change of heart regarding her star quality.
The DJ has been making it big internationally. She has been in the UK for the last few days, rocking massive crowds as she serves our signature Amapiano sound. After her latest performances on Birmingham and Manchester, snippets of her sets filled social media, and she immediately went viral.
For once, though, she went viral for a good reason. Going by the reactions visible in the few videos shared, it was clear that her international audience thoroughly enjoyed her performances. For that reason, Mzansi social media was forced to acknowledge that perhaps she is great at her job, and they had been wrong about her all along.
Some went a step further and demanded apologies on behalf of Uncle Waffles and her team. Earlier on in her career, when she first started going big, her manager Zeus Omega was accused of taking advantage of her, after pictures emerged of her surrounded by a bunch of men who all looked older than her, while she was the only young woman in the group. Fans as well as other celebrities felt uncomfortable with the photos, and insinuated that the men were probably grooming her.
Seeing how well her career is turning out, fans now want all those who had nothing positive to say about Zeus, to swallow their pride and apologise to him. Clearly, the young star’s team has done right by her, and they deserve to get all their flowers.
But of course there are those who will always find some negatives to complain about, no matter how good things seem to be. The naysayers were in the mentions too, pointing out that some of the people in the international audiences looked bored by the set.
But Uncle Waffles’s true fans chalked it up to the possibility that the UK audience is only familiar with Piano songs that have gone viral on TikTok, but do not know the deep SA Piano that Uncle Waffles was playing.
It has really been a pleasure to watch this young queen blossom in her career. The odds were heavily stacked against her, and she would top trends week in and week out, as people dragged her and called her untalented.
Her career is speaking for her, and it is saying volumes, seeing how far she has come. And we are sure she is only going to go farther.
