Nakhane Toure' wins Best Actor for Inxeba (The Wound)

Nakhane wins after receiving many death threats for the film.

After many death threats were sent out to the cast and crew of Inxeba (The Wound) for the film -when the trailer premiered in South Africa - the cast have since made international headlines and recieved awards for the project and Nakhane says it was all worth it.

Musician and novelist Nakhane who plays Xolani, a lonely factory worker who joins the men of his community in the mountains of the Eastern Cape to initiate a group of teenage boys into manhood, has won the 'Fipresci Award for the Best Actor in a foreign film at the Palm Springs Film Festival and took to social media to announce the big news.

“I don’t know what to say but to share my gratitude, not only to you the people who gave me the award but to the people who I worked with in the film…” Nakhane said


This being the first film Nakhane has ever done in his career, he went on to say that he was very happy to have been a part of the film as he felt that it was a very important story to tell.

“This film was not always easy to make and it definitely was not easy when it came out, if you did a little bit of reading you’d know that it was controversial and that sometimes our lives were at risk but I’m happy that I continued with it because it was a very important story to tell…” he said.
