When one microphone switches off, another one switches on. This is true in the case of radio personality, Ngizwe Mchunu.
The former Ukhozi FM host, has taken his radio career to the next level by starting his own radio station, Ngizwe Mchunu FM. The Nkandla-born star joins an array of other radio personalities, such as Gareth Cliff, Tbo Touch and DJ Sbu, who have ventured into doing their own thing in the digital radio space.
Speaking to Isolezwe, Ngizwe said the following:
"This radio station will only play traditional music because of my passion for this genre of music. I represent a more traditional audience, therefore I decided to create a platform whereby this audience in particular would find resonance with the content that I have created.''
In South Africa, the month of September is known for celebrating all things heritage. Therefore Ngizwe's powerful project forms quite a beautiful correlation.
More on the project, Ngizwe said the following:
"My wish for the station is for it to go international, and I'm confident that it will happen. Currently we only two presenters, it's me and radio DUT's presenter, Mfanuphetheni."
Ngizwe is clearly on a mission to preserve the heritage and blueprint of Maskandi music.
The station also has incredible and empowering structures, whereby young people who have a passion for presenting Maskandi shows on radio and upcoming maskandi artists will be hugely assisted.
Ngizwe Mchunu FM is currently based in Durban, however Ngizwe is still in talks with Icasa in regards to making the station readily available for people who are not digital savvy.
Ngizwe Mchunu is a force to be reckoned with. This is such a boss move. Congratulations!
