Speaking about the marketing campaign, MultiChoice Director for Local Entertainment Channels Shirley Adonisi says, “SHAKA ILEMBE explores the world that shaped the famed African King and his journey to the throne. Pivotal to his story from a young boy to a globally recognized icon was his mother, Queen Nandi. We felt it was therefore fitting this Heritage Day to honor her role with a campaign that bears the evocative words ‘My Son is Coming’.”
In a statement that was shared, Nomzamo Mbatha said she was privileged to be part of the project. “I am honoured to bring the giant that is Queen Nandi to life. History will remember those who informed its people of where we come from, to better understand who we are. I am fortunate to be part of a project that is much bigger than ourselves and to tell this story in our own language. Impi iyeza!” expressed Nomzamo Mbatha.
Over a year ago Nomzamo Mbatha sat down for a virtual interview with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show.
The actress spoke at length about adjusting to life in America.
“When you come to America, I think you have said this before, about eating. There are the first couple of months of just eating and thinking it’s not going to go anywhere. And then you wanna go home, and everyone says - My goodness, America has been so good to you. Your cheeks. I try not to eat a lot. It was kind of very hard for me in the beginning. I was trying not to die in America. It’s very expensive to transport a body home… I had a lot of culture shock but there’s a lot of learning as well.”
Despite the culture shock, Mbatha said that she was settling in very well.
“You need to get a really nice dog and then you need to go for a hike but then you need to dress as if you didn’t care but you have to dress as if you are on a runway. Then you go for the hike. Make sure you don’t sweat but make it look like you were working out.”
