Paxton Fielies, who is better known to her fans as Paxton, is not only South Africa’s talented singer/songwriter, but also an aspiring philanthropist. Her rise to fame began in 2017 when Paxton won the 13th Season of Idols South Africa. She is currently the 1st young female South African to claim the title and we love seeing what inspires this young star.

Paxton Fielies Age, Family
Paxton Fielies was born on the 17th September 2000 in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town, South Africa to Paul de Bruyn and Crystal Fielies. She is 19 years old.
Her interest in music developed at the young age of 7 years old when she joined the New Apostolic Church Children’s Choir, however in 2013 she decided to leave the choir and focus on school. She then started sharing covers of popular songs on social media and gained substantial exposure when her cover of Lay Me Down by Sam Smith went viral.
Paxton Fielies Career
Paxton’s driving decision to audition for Idols South Africa, came from her mother, also saying that she viewed 2017 as a risk taking year.
“I knew it would be a year of sacrifice. I could concentrate on my education or I could break into the entertainment industry. I couldn’t do both. But I also knew that even if I struck gold, I never want to be just an Idols winner. I want to be much more,” she told WeekendSpecial.
Paxton Fielies was the first person to receive a Golden Ticket to Cape Town auditions for Idols Season 13 when she auditioned with Tori Kelly’s “Confetti”.
The ‘Theatre Week’ of the competition earned her a place among the season’s top 16 performers with her rendition of ‘American Boy’ by ‘Estelle’. Some of her most noted performances on the show are her renditions of ‘Over the Rainbow’ by Judy Garland,‘Careless Whisper’ by George Michael, ‘Side by Side’ by ‘Ariane Grande’ and ‘Listen’ by ‘Beyonce’. She debuted her first single ‘Demonstrate’ on her last competitive performance on the show. Paxton is the youngest person to win idols since Jody Williams.
In 2018, Paxton was invited for interviews and performed at live venues and on talk shows. Her major performance in her career came in December 2017 when she sang live at the ‘Cape Town Festival of Lights’ at Grande Parade, Cape Town.
Her first collaboration song, Smother, with Pop and R&B singer, Craig Lucas, was released on the 9th February that same year.
In May 2018, she released the second lead single from her debut album she ‘teased’ Angifuni. It received highly positive reveiws and since Paxton is a ‘South African Coloured’ artist it was also praised for it’s Afro-Pop production, lyrical content and the use of the Zulu language.
Her debut album, This Is Me, was digitally released for download and streaming on the 1st June 2018. On the 15 October 2018, her 3rd single ‘Where Are You Now’ was released from her album ‘This Is Me’.
January 2019 brought Paxton Fielies the accomplishment of being Cover Girl for Club X magazine. She has been working on this since November 2018. In February she performed as an opening act for a show by R&B singer, Tamia, Cape Town, South Africa as part of her ‘Passion Like Fire’ tour. The year culminated in her release of a non-album single, ‘No Distractions’, which was a collaboration with House DJ, Dr Moruti.
Paxton Fielies Controversy
Paxton Fielies found herself the victim of cyber-bullying in late 2018. Facebook meme creator, Isaac Meyer, began making memes making fun of her looks, hair, family and cultural background. After a few months, she spoke out publicly about this incident.
“My mom always says whatever happens in your childhood or teenage years goes with you forever. I know people who are over 30 and still remember that one person who bullied them in school or the exact incident and how it happened. It ruins young people’s self esteem,” she said.
Paxton Fielies Philanthropy
‘The Children’s Prize Foundation’ elected Paxton Fielies as their Ambassador for their initiative of ‘You Me Equal Rights’. The aim was to advocate equal rights for both male and female children.
Honouring those who have made better moves to better the world around them, the World Children’s Prize is known as a Nobel Prize for children. Nine young musicians received the WCP Crystal Globe this year and Paxton Fielies was one of them.
An anti-bullying campaign in August 2018 was launched by Western Cape Department of Education. The campaign was called ‘Raise your voice, not your phone’. The aim of the campaign was to educate people on the dangers of bullying and sharing videos of bullying taking place on social media. She also has performed at benefit concerts such as ‘CHOC Benefit Concert’ that raises awareness for children diagnosed with cancer and blood disorders.
In August 2019, Paxton Fielies was one of the chosen celebrities to perform live at the finish line of the Blisters for Bread Charity Fun Walk. The fun walk was a fundraising event for Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA).
Paxton Fielies shared an amazing piece of advice she once received during her Idols competition and although she did not say who it was from, it certainly is a line to be remembered by the young and old alike. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

On Paxton’s Idols SA win she not only earned herself R1 million in prize money, but she also won a brand new Ford Focus car. However, due to her age she was not able to drive it yet as she was under 18 years.

As of 2019, Paxton Fielies has an estimated net worth of between $1 Million and $5 Million. Her primary income source can be attributed to her profession as a world music singer.
