In 2021 Reneilwe Letsholonyane announced that he was officially hanging his boots and retiring from the beautiful game of soccer.

In a video shared on social media, Yeye gathered all the jerseys for all the clubs he’s played for on the ground and was sighted leaving, then he threw his soccer boots in the sky – signaling the end of an illustrious career. 
 
Football fans took to social media to thank Yeye for all the years spent playing the beautiful game.
 

Reneilwe rose through the ranks playing for Jomo Cosmos back in 2006. 

 

This was followed by a long stint at the glamour boys Kaizer Chiefs. 

 

After leaving the Soweto giants Yeye went to join Supersport United. His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the South African national team in 2008. 

 

Letsholonyane is one of the lucky few soccer stars that got to represent Bafana Bafana at the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa.

 

On the 11th Anniversary of the 2010 World Cup, Letsholonyaneshared how grateful he was to be part of that iconic team. “11 years later and it still feels like it happened yesterday. One of the best moments of my life/career. Thank God that I was part of that 2010 World Cup group,” he said.
 
Yeye was married to South African radio and television personality Mpho Letsholonyane. 

 

On their son’s 9th birthday in May 2021, Mpho penned him a heartfelt letter.

“Today my Minion and Superhero who is obsessed with Lego and watching people gaming on YouTube turns 9 years old”, she shared. “What a journey it has been… So many learnings. So much growth. Great conversations and lots of laughter.”

Taking to Twitter, Mpho revealed that she was told that she would never be able to conceive when she was 17 years old and when she was 28 she suffered a miscarriage.

“Still can’t believe that I went from being told that I’d never be able to conceive at age 17 because endometriosis, managing to conceive and then suffering a miscarriage at age 28 Broken heart to now celebrating 9 years of life with this young man,” she added.
 
 “This is why we ask that you don’t go around asking people when they’re having children, it’s not always a smooth journey.”
