At the time, it was alleged that the move to bring back the actors and their beloved characters was an attempt for the soapie to hold on to its second-most-watched programming in the country after Uzalo. This is as Generations: The Legacy has not been the same since the great firing of its original Generations cast.
Now, it seems that even the return of Karabo and Tau has not been enough to change the fate of the soapie if the latest report is anything to go by.
Skeem Saam becomes the second-most watched soapie
Leading entertainment commentator Phil Mphela took to Twitter to confirm that Skeem Saam in the month of April 2023 became the second most-watched show on South African television after Uzalo, which is undisputed.
Skeem Saam beats Generations: The Legacy. The SABC1 youth soapie peaked (at) 4.3 million viewers for their top episode in April, beating Generations The Legacy’s 4.1 million. Skeem Saam was the second most watched show, behind Uzalo, in South Africa in April.
Comments on the post came from social media users that were not surprised. More so given the trending infidelity story which had fans on the edge of their seats for the best part of the entire month of April.
The news is bittersweet, as the introduction of Karabo and Tau meant the exit of an original Generations:The Legacy actor, who might be joining Skeem Saam in the future. As reported at the time:
Recently, a tweep took to the timeline to ask whether the rumours that Musa Ngema is heading to yet another SABC 1 soapie were true. The soapie in question was none other than the hit soapie Skeem Saam. If Musa knew that this was not the case, he could have ignored the tweet.
However, it seems that Musa was in need to start creating excitement for his new venture as he commented on the post with a suggestive but open-ended reply. Moreover, when asked directly in the comments section of the post, Musa continued to tease the suggestion.
