Usually the lobola negotiations can be very tricky as it depends on each household and culture how much they want to release their daughter. Some people often take to social media to seek traditional advice on how they have to pay.
In a video that has surfaced on social media, Dr Thato's father can be heard insisting that he wants R5 million from her lobola but Thato disapproves.
Dr Thato's fiancé recently went down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Taking to her social media account the model announced that she said yes to be big question. "I’ve found the one whom my soul loves. I said YES!!" she captioned the post.
Thato got engaged at Inanda Dam in KwaZulu-Natal and she chose not to show us her bae's face and only showed us his back view. Dr Thato recently flew the South African flag high at the Miss supranational pageant held in Poland in August. She became the second runner up and taking to her Instagram to reflect on the journey, Thato said, "It’s been 2 weeks since the @misssupranational final night! It has been an incredible journey, and what made it more special was meeting the people who put in soo much work into making sure we got the most out of it. Thank you @porxild for being a true Queen and great inspiration. Thank you @andre.sleigh for your selflessness, your passion for uplifting others was so amazing to witness! I can’t wait to see my Supra Family again.
Another model who is set to represent the country at an international pageant is Miss South Africa 2021 Lalela Mswane. She will be competing at the Miss Universe pageant which is set to take place in Israel this December. There has been mounting calls on social media to boycott the pageant.
The Palestine solidarity organisation Africa4Palestine, reported that the model had withdrawn from the Miss Universe competition however the Miss SA organization has rubbished the claims.
They said the reports are “completely unfounded and untrue”. The organisation said they are also thrilled to be able to make Lalela’s childhood dream to wear the crown while representing her country globally come true.
“Like her, Lalela will be a role model to young women – not just across the country, but across the African continent. Anyone who wants to rob Lalela of her moment in the spotlight is unkind and short-sighted. She is the shining beacon for young women everywhere, showing them that being beautiful while being clever and educated is very possible.
“We are not a political organisation and the Miss Universe pageant is not a politically inspired event,” said the CEO of the organisation Stephanie Weil.
