Uzalo mastermind Duma Ndlovu has revealed the secret behind the show's huge success.
The telenovela is officially the biggest show on South African television, with a nightly viewership of over 8-million people.
Ndlovu believes the show has grown in loyal viewers because of the story it brings to the fore - the type of story your average person on the street can relate to.
"We tell stories in a way that makes our people see themselves in them. What has made Uzalo a hit is the fact that people from KwaMashu and around Durban see themselves in the characters," Ndlovu told City Press.

That can be directly attributed to those who write the scripts for the show, with the 61-year-old adding: "We are all storytellers. We grew up seeing what happens in our families and communities. Everybody’s life is full of drama, but it’s just how the stories are told and portrayed."
