Based solely on the trailer (and the title), we can already see that the upcoming "She is King" movie has a strong theme of female leadership and we are support it fully.
The trailer begins with a scene where lead actors Khabonina Qubeka (who plays Gugu) and Aubrey Poo are in an interview about an upcoming play they are working on. The journalist in the scene poses a question to Poo's character and Qubeka's character chimes in before he has a chance to speak, saying "I feel that Africa is filled with female leaders that are not celebrated enough. Young women and girls need to understand that they are descendants of queens."
The scene is then followed by a montage of the hard-knock-life that leads a young woman (who looks like Qubekha) to a life in the theatre. The film stars Baby Cele, Mike Mvelase, Tango Ncetezo, Khanyi Mbau, Zoe Mthiyane, Bongani Madondo, Sophie Ndaba among others.
The film follows the aforementioned duo as they work on a theatre show that they plan to make bigger than 'The Lion King' and 'Sarafina' - which as you well know - are SA's biggest and most successful theatre productions both here at home and on the international stage.
