With hours to go before the 2020 edition of the annual Sun Met in Cape Town, it was announced that expected VIP guest Zozibini Tunzi wouldn't be making it. Miss Universe had expected this to be her first visit to Mzansi since winning the crown in 2019.
We were all extremely excited for the 158th Sun Met, an event which showed off some of the finest fashion and style that the country had to offer. But we won't lie, we did feel a pang of disappointment when we found out that Zozibini Tunzi, unfortunately, would no longer be joining us for this year's Met.
Zozi was named as the face of the Sun Met, along with Bonang Matheba, and until recently, many believed that she would be gracing the annual horse-racing event. However, that turned out to not be the case. A report in the Sunday Times simply touched on Zozibini's absence twice, only mentioning that she was busy with Miss Universe duties and had to reschedule her dates.
While it wasn't widely announced that Zozibini would no longer be at this year's Sun Met, a hint probably dropped earlier this week when she confirmed her homecoming tour. Sharing a video from the Miss Universe official social media channels, Zozibini revealed that she would be coming to South Africa from the 8th - 15th of February - a week after the Sun Met. She wrote on Instagram,
"I AM FINALLY COMING HOME! The support of my fellow South Africans has been echoing throughout the entire universe since the day that I won. I am so excited to finally get to feel it in person.
The homecoming tour will be taking place from 8-15 of February. I am hoping you can do me the honor of coming to welcome the Mouawad crown home. See you there"
While her absence was missed, we still thoroughly enjoyed the 158th Sun Met. From the fabulous fashion to the actual horse race itself, we had the pleasure of enjoying the lifestyle fete with our friends from BLOOM Gin and Greenall's Gin.

Just a note about what we have learned from our friends at BLOOM Gin and Greenall's Gin - do you know that some gins have up to 90 grams of sugar per liter while Greenall's Wild Berry and BLOOM Jasmine and Rose Gins are deliciously sugar free? We didn't know either but now we do - and you do too.
