It's an exciting time for South African film, particularly celebrity biopics

A number of autobiographical films are in the pipeline and will be making their way into production in the coming months.

Take a look at what you can expect soon on your screens....

Brenda: The Story

After a lengthy court battle between Brenda's son Bongani and her manager Chicco Twala, a film about Ma Brr's life has finally been given the green light

UK-based production company Showbiz Bee is set to produce Brenda: The Story in the upcoming months.

Bongani said of his thoughts on the film to TshisaLive;, “It’s been a long fight, but I am relieved that this fight is finally over. It took a strain on me financially, in lawyer’s fees and the like, but I never lost hope.

"I want to thank SA for having hope in me and my mother’s legacy. I promise to make a film that will make them proud.”

The Lebo Mathosa Story

The Lebo Mathosa Story is a six-part TV series to be aired on BET Africa.

According to reports, Kelly Khumalo will take on the role of an adult Lebo, whilst Bahumi - daughter of Somizi - will play a younger Lebo

Lebo's brother Solly is ecstatic over the news. He told City Press: “It’s long overdue. Although she died at a young age, she made a huge impact on the music industry and as a result, she had won people’s hearts with her unique voice.

"Music runs in the family but Lebo’s voice was unique and different from all of us, she was just different.

Stogie T

The rapper revealed that his biopic would make its debut at an arts festival in Reunion later this month.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Stogie revealed that the film would touch on his his early days in SA, including growing up during apartheid.

“On September 28, I premier the show in Reunion Island at Cité des Arts. I hope to share this experience with you if you can make it - and if you can’t, say a prayer that my grandmother and grandfather may be honored by this performance.”

Dankie San - ProKid

Media mogul Tbo Touch broke the news to us back in May that production on the biopic about the late great rapper would officially begin

It may be a while before the biopic hits our screens though, as ProKid's family have requested time to deal with his affairs before they focus their attention on a film about his life.

Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah's biopic is an actual thing!

The movie is an adaptation of the comedian's 2016 bestselling autobiography Born a Crime: Stories From a Southern African Childhood.

Whilst Lupita Nyong'o will play his mother, Patrica, there's still no word on who will take the lead role of Trevor Noah
