After offering a tentative response over whether or not they would be completing their Zimbabwean show today, Big Nuz has officially cancelled their plans to travel to the neighboring country. The Afrotainment trio decided to cancel the trip in order to focus all their efforts in fighting the xenophobic attacks against fellow Africans in SA.
DJ Tira has also claimed that band member, Mandla Maphumulo, has a fear of flying and had to resort to driving to Zimbabwe, a situation which would’ve been more dangerous for the artist. According to Zimbabwean publication, The Herald the group denied that their reason for cancelling the show was the fear of a violent reaction from Zimbabweans due to the increasing xenophobic attacks across SA.
Artists such as the likes of Winnie Khumalo and Ringo Madlingozi have received death threats ahead of the Green Concert in May. Speaking to SABC news, Ringo mentioned the xenophobic attacks have affected his business as a musician. The singer did add that he is still keen in attending the concert which focuses on love and peace; messages which would resonate even more with fellow Africans especially in the midst of the attacks that are currently ongoing.
Yesterday artists such as Nandi Mngoma, Black Coffee, Euphonik, Zakes Bantwini and several more attended the peace march in Durban.
