Nobody does controversy quite like South African celebrities, and kwaito performer, Brickz, will be the latest example of this. The singer has been arrested following allegations of raping a 16 year old girl.
The incident took place in the earlier parts of 2013, and- somewhat bizarrely- a case was opened against him almost 6 months later. However, the accusations had enough validity for the police to decide to arrest the Kwaito singer.
While the arrest was made on Friday, local media outlets caught on to the news this week, and since then, Twitter has been abuzz as many fans flock to support Brickz, while many are giving the man no patience. Brickz's lawyers have given statements to the press this week, and the mood emanating from their camp is that of confidence. His lawyer believes that they will have enough ammo to not only tackle the charges, but have them cleared altogether.
Brickz's lawyers will be applying for bail today- a notion which the state will be opposing. Phindi Louw, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, commented,
"The only details we can reveal right now as the NPA is that Sipho Charles Ndlovu (Brickz) has appeared at the Roodeport Magistrate's Court facing a charge of Rape. Rape is a very serious offence and falls under Schedule 6, hence we are opposing bail as the State"
