Cassper Nyovest and Lekau Sehoana – the founder of DRIP Footwear SA – have had a long, lovely friendship for years. Now as Lekau makes a huge announcement about his iconic fashion company, tweeps are pointing the finger at Cassper.
Lekau recently took to Twitter to say that he was going to miss DRIP, although he was proud of everything he managed to accomplish with it. However, growth is a blessing, he said, so it’s alright anyway.
Naturally, the sombre tone of his tweet got fans concerned, as many scrambled to try and understand why he would be leaving his big brand. Many thought he meant he was selling the brand, which seemed to anger everyone. They got mad because DRIP is one of Mzansi’s proudest black-owned brands, and seeing it get sold off would be a shame.
Others lectured him on the stupidity of giving up his biggest venture yet. Drip is supposed to be his legacy, and now he is going to give it all up, for what? They warned that he would end up regretting the move, and should seriously reconsider doing it.
But some cynics saw another hand in the whole deal – Cassper’s. As one tweep commented, they were sure he had a role in it, even though they can’t quite explain why they believe so. It’s just something about it that made them feel like he is responsible, possibly because of their closeness, and the fact that he even partners with the brand in a big way.
But Lekau has come forth and clarified what he meant when he said goodbye. He says he has not sold DRIP, but he has transferred shares. He hasn’t given any further information, so we are as yet unclear on what that means for the company’s ownership going forward. Lekau has also hinted that he has other big moves coming, but at the moment, he is still not forthcoming with more information.
The two friends recently treated us to some laughs when Lekau joked about having wrecked Cassper’s beloved McLaren GT. It started with him asking to borrow the luxury vehicle to ride around town for a while, to which Cassper agreed wholeheartedly.
But then he started asking online about how to drift a McLaren, a sign that it would all end in tears. He then shared a picture from the back seat of a taxi, saying he was on his way to Cass to explain what happened.
Obviously, it was all a joke, but it was completely worth it to see that brief moment when Cass might have thought Lekau actually ruined his car.
We wish Lekau the best on his entrepreneurship journey going forward.
