Every Friday, the Metro FM Fresh Breakfast team redefines getting up close and personal with your favourite famous faces but they had to switch things up and get up close and personal with each other after their unnamed guest dropped them at the last minute.
Made up of Angie Khumalo, Mpho Maboi, Somizi Mhlongo and DJ Fresh, there was no shortage of interesting questions and answers.
Following yet another question about Bonang Matheba for Somizi which was submitted by a fan via the Metro FM Whatsapp line, Mpho Maboi read another fan question which asked DJ Fresh why he chose to remain silent about Matheba's allegations despite being a very vocal advocate against woman and child abuse and having a relationship with both of the people involved.
"I'll tell you why I never made a comment on it... because they are both people I love the one says [...], the other says [...], what do I say then? Because it's clear, I've always made it clear, my friends know how I feel about woman abuse and he swore to me that he never beat her up. She said he did, in fact, for me, that's why I hoped it had gone to court so that it gets to breathe there and hopefully the truth comes out because the truth lies somewhere between the two of them."
It would have been premature to speak out against him because then why don't I speak out about the possibility that he might be lying, hence I stayed out of it."
As an interviewer, Fresh asks the hard questions so it is only fair that he answers them as well. It is commendable that he answered honestly when a fan asked him what really went down between him and ex-girlfriend, Penny Lebyane while he dated back in the late 90's/early 2000's. Fresh has actually never publically addressed this before.
"The way that relationship started was not in the right way. So I was actually in a relationship at the time. I was in a long distance relationship, so I got caught up in Jozi and being caught up in Jozi, all of a sudden we were this public thing but I was actually in a relationship," he explained.
He went on to add "so there was that. There was also the shame attached to that, the shame of breaking someone's heart, because now she's reading about it in the papers so that's why I've actually never spoken about it. So it's not even that I flourished. It's just that it was never really a proper relationship."
