Money is nice, we can’t deny it. So celebrities, after working hard to get to where they are, have every right to spend theirs on whatever they want – we won’t take that right from them.

But have you ever looked at something a celebrity spent money on and wondered what on earth they were thinking? Seriously, it would have been a better idea to just put the money in a bag and burn it, because what on earth are some of these expenditures?
Here are some of the most ridiculous things our Mzansi celebrities have spent money on.
Willard Katsande
Willard Katsande tries; he really does. But it seems that his sense of fashion is just not meant to be, which is why he sometimes ends up with some looks that have us questioning his whole existence. Seriously, it’s not that hard to get a stylist; Mzansi is crawling with them from every corner.
In 2019, the Zimbabwe-born footballer rocked an outfit that he thought was rather cool, until he stepped out and left everyone wondering what in the world he was thinking. It looked like something between a sweat suit, but its being sleeveless made it really weird. On top of that, it had some odd lion print thing going on, which just made it look disorganised and confusing. The shoes he had on were awesome, but that outfit was just not it.
But we cannot blame him (or rather, we try not to) – some of us have it and others just don’t.

King Monada
King Monada definitely hit the jackpot with his song Malwedhe. Although he has gone on to release more music, that remains his biggest international hit, and we can’t begin to imagine the dollars it brought in. So we have to try and understand why he got a bit excited to spend the money.
He bought a chopper – small, white. On its own, there is nothing inherently wrong with buying a chopper, as it can be a rather useful means of some short distance travel. But it was how he posted it that left us in stitches. Monada posted a picture of himself beside his prized possession and called it his “private jet”. Now, King Monada, we all know that is no jet.

Zozibini Tunzi
Fashion icon Zozibini Tunzi is literally a style queen – she is our former Miss SA after all. But I suppose even the best of us have our off days, and this outfit certainly showed her on hers.
As much as we love Zozi, her Miss Universe costume was simply not the one. In a moment of inspiration, she wore an outfit with the colours of our flag, which was cute and patriotic. That was until she added letters written by South African men, then it stopped being as cute. Not only was it tacky, it also made the outfit look a little too overwhelming to the senses.
We wonder how much this cost her because sis, it was not worth it.

AKA
AKA is a certified braggart, and many people in Mzansi consider him more than a little arrogant. Which is why the internet often relishes an opportunity to make fun of him – like they did with his latest extravagant purchase.
The rapper bought a set of diamond encrusted grills for his teeth. Now every time he smiles, the room literally glows. We are unclear on whether that was the intention or he purely meant to show us that he has enough money to afford it, but he now goes to sleep with diamonds in his mouth, and we don’t know how much sense that makes.
Further, if you have had the stories of people having muggers pull their teeth because they bragged about their grills, you will see even more reason why this is a terrible idea.
But it is his money, isn’t it?
Lasizwe Dambuza
Lasizwe Dambuza has never been shy about trying out new things, especially when it comes to his wardrobe. But every so often he has gone a bit too far with the experiments, so much that he left his fans wondering what he was thinking.
First, he wore that bodysuit and blazer combination to the celebration of 15 years of E! He really thought he ate that, but fans wanted him to know that he looked like he was wearing a baby’s outfit – definitely not what he was going for.
He also recently copied Uncle Waffles’ style and bought a thong to wear with lowrise jeans. The look had already sparked a lot of controversy when the DJ did it, so it did not go well with Lasizwe either. Not to mention, fans did not think it looked flattering on him.
But he has always made it abundantly clear that it’s his body and he can wear whatever he wants, so amen, I guess?
Dr Shauwn Mkhize
This one is dicey. Dr Shauwn Mkhize is always stunning us with her fancy outfits, most of them designer. To the untrained eye, she looks like she is swimming in designer clothing. But what happens when her clothes are exposed as fake brands?
This is one that we have pondered for a while. Does she know they are fake when she buys them, or does she think she is buying the real deal? And if the answer is the latter, is she buying them at the full price of the designers, or is she getting a deal and wondering how lucky she is?
Either way, every single outfit of hers that has been exposed as a fake designer is just that – a terrible purchase. Maybe MamMkhize should get more discerning.
