Makgotso M will be one of King Ghezo’s, played by John Boyega, wives. She had opened up previously about struggling to get roles because of her background, "I am an African. A South African Zulu and Pedi woman to be precise with British citizenship too because I was raised in England from a very young age. I speak Zulu more fluently than Pedi because I was raised by a Zulu woman and on occasion, you will hear one of the many South African accents when I speak English infused with a certain kind of British accent. (because there's not just one British accent).
She struggles to get roles because she said black British roles are a myth, "Which is absurd because I am both of those things. Also, black British roles have been a myth lol. And I have been told (not in so many words) to accept it because that's is just how the industry is."
Composing 5 songs on the film is talented The Lion King composer, Lebo M. In an interview with SABC, Lebo spoke so highly of the cast and what the movie speaks about, “I spent most of this year, probably since early May. But we started going into the studio about two or three months ago while I was at home in South Africa. It’s been quite a journey quite exciting.”
“It is very exciting for me because it’s the first time in my career I work with such a high-quality superstar project, with some of the best talents from the black community from around the world. The list is endless. To also work with a project by Ms. Viola Davis is really awesome.
"Then I’ve teamed up for the first time in my career as a black film composer and I haven’t done that before to this calibre and most important to me it’s a project that is happening at a time period in Benin – a special theme where you have Hollywood behind a theme that features a brilliant African story, an entire army of African women that protected the kingdom,” he told the broadcaster.
