Maps Slams CNN's SA COVID-19 Statistics

A little fact checking could have gone a long way

Television presenter Maps Maponyane has taken to Twitter to question CNN's reporting on the South African COVID-19 statistics that were broadcast on Friday.

Maps shared a picture of CNN's statistics along with the current statics by the South African government and there is quite the difference in numbers.

"I've always trusted a lot of what you report on, but a quick fact check wouldn't have taken you much time at all... Come on @CNN do better," tweeted Maps.


CNN reported that Mzansi has surpassed 300 000 COVID-19 cases and has 14 000 deaths which, is incorrect per the Department of health statistics released on Friday.

Maps wasn't alone in outrage with many criticizing the news outlet for its false reporting with some defending CNN saying maybe they have direct access to the figures.
