Ntsiki Mazwai
It has not even been twenty four hours since our favourite ZAlebs brought everything they had to the red carpet at the Bridgerton Affair, and Ntsiki Mazwai has already dragged them all for filth.
Yesterday marked a very glamorous party hosted by Mzansi beauty queen Zozibini Tunzi. The event was centred around, and followed the theme of the hit Netflix period drama, Bridgerton.

To mark the release of the second season, the streaming platform threw parties in South Africa and Nigeria, themed A Bridgerton Affair. A group of top celebrities in the country got exclusive invitations, which were termed “summons from the queen”. They were to dress up in the theme of the show, but add a little bit of some African flair.
As pictures and videos hit social media today, fans were excited to see how their faves got all dolled up, and even voted for who they thought pulled off the theme the best.

But Ntsiki was not impressed. She took to Twitter to ridicule the event and the whole concept surrounding it. She said that it was all some embarrassing level of clowning for our celebrities to try so hard to mimic white people.

She beseeched the celebs who were so excited to dress up in such a theme, to think about where their ancestors were at the time when the period piece is supposed to have taken place. During that century, black people were slaves, if not completely seen as circus freaks. She said it is embarrassing that, even so many years later, black people are still so desperate to seek the approval of the “masters”.
She further said that white people would not be caught dead having such big celebrations of traditional African cultures, so why are black people so obsessed to do the same? Did any white people dress up like Black Panther? She demanded to know.

But the highlight of her rant was when she compared all SA celebrities to monkeys.

Monkey see
Monkey do
Is it ok for me think sa celebs are a bunch of monkeys???” she wrote.
Many of her followers have agreed with her, saying that the whole thing felt a bit uncomfortable and cringe-worthy for them. But others think that Ntsiki is just jealous she wasn’t one of those invited. Either that, or she should just keep quiet and let people enjoy some harmless things sometimes.

This is sure to go badly with the celebrities who attended the event. But what do you think? Is Ntsiki being too harsh, or is she right about the whole concept?
