South African actress, Rami Chuene, has clapped back at a tweep, Gugu Petunia, who called upon women to observe a five day fast, in hopes of eradicating Gender Based Violence. Gugu had taken it upon herself to respond to a post from ABSA, which had shared the conversation between Sophie Hobbs, Professor Monica Onyango and Miranda Jordan-Friedmann, who had joined media personality, Gareth Cliff in a discussion about GBV.

Rami, along with many other South Africans, were shocked by Gugu’s suggestion, causing her to slam her for making such a ludicrous request. Rami clapped back with, “No. No amount of Esther, Ruth, Naomi, Sarah and Mary, not even the badasses Delilah, Sapphira, Jezebel and mother of deception, Eve will get me participating in this. Everything has been taken from women. Everything! How then are we okay to take even the nothing that’s left?”.
Rami has spoken publicly about what she feels is a lack of interest in Gender Based Violence by the South African government. In June 2020, she addressed President Cyril Ramaphosa in a direct tweet after he had banned alcohol during the nationwide lockdown.
Rami shared that as a country we cannot hide men's behaviour behind alcohol abuse. The actress said men kill all day and even when they are not intoxicated. She reiterated that swift arrests and harsher punishments, needs to be put in place swiftly to combat gender-based violence.
