In light of the initial backlash, Simz released a statement that aimed to absolve her of any wrongdoing. However, that all backfired as the statement only seemed to implicate Simz even further as it confirmed that she knew who Thabo Bester was before his name and face became public, or more specifically, national knowledge.
As reported, the since-deleted statement read in part:
Ngema says she was introduced to Bester as TK Motsepe. She states that Bester was well-connected in the entertainment space and he used to organise events and book celebs.
She says they later transacted business through his 21st-century company, but she wasn't paid for the work she did. She acknowledges visiting Bester in prison, but says she went to demand answers…
“This was five years ago and I have supporting documents that prove I had only visited on one occasion. Dated April 5 2018. The media should stop vilifying his victims and using us as a tool for distraction because we also want answers.”
However, this statement was not well received as Simz was part of the attendees at the viral event which saw a room full of ZAlebs and business people all sing Happy Birthday to Thabo who was assuming yet another alias at the time.
Simz Ngema went to visit TK in jail on 05 April 2018 , and 3 months later , 13 June 2018 she let grown people sing happy birthday to him pretending to be in New York & never said a word .. pic.twitter.com/uYg2IFrEZC
Simz Ngema turns to family in light of recent drama
Taking to Instagram, Simz seemed to continue to play the victim in the situation about her affiliation with Thabo Bester. This is as she took the opportunity to thank her “supporters” despite the backlash she has been receiving.
Moreover, she showed that she has been currently with her close-knit family during her time of need.
However, it was not just Simz’ family that was supporting her. This is as she went on to share a TikTok video thanking her new “husband” and baby daddy Tino Chinyani was supporting her too.
