The country was recently rocked when Unathi Nkayi was fired from Kaya FM. News channels ran wild with stories that Sizwe Dhlomo had gotten her axed from her job, and tweeps were understandably livid and Sizwe. Well, now more details have emerged, and it is not at all what we thought it was.
At the time of her firing, Unathi had claimed that Sizwe had verbally abused her, and that she had even felt afraid for herself. All of this allegedly happened when Sizwe got to the studio late, and Unathi was angry that he had kept her waiting, resulting in a verbal altercation.
In later details, it came out that the altercation had been recorded, and Unathi had stretched the truth about feeling afraid for herself. Although the show was off air at the time, the equipment was all still on, and captured the whole conversation.
Following investigations by the radio station, Unathi was found to have lied, and was thus let go by the channel effective immediately. But one voice was suspiciously missing from the whole online conversation regarding the real circumstances -Sizwe Dhlomo’s.
He has now finally come out to respond to everything and clear his name. According to him, Unathi tried to frame him for abuse and get him axed, but it all backfired on her.
In a series of Tweets, Sizwe credited City Press for having written the truth as it happened. He revealed that, had the conversation not been captured by the equipment, he would have probably lost his job. He further said that his career he would have found a way to rebuild, but the toughest thing would have been the destruction of his reputation, as verbal abuse is a serious accusation.
Responding to a fan who asked him, Sizwe said that he and Unathi had a good working relationship until that unfortunate day. He said they were always cordial with each other, and had in fact just been laughing with each other a few moments before the altercation.
Sizwe had intended to keep silent on the whole thing, but was approached to give his side of the story, which is why he broke the silence. Such allegations can be dicy, and he did not want it all to descend into an online war of “he said she said”.
It is great, though, that he finally decided to clear his name. The whole country was angry at him for ruining Unathi’s career, when clearly, there was a lot more to the story.
We hope that the whole thing will be cleared up between Unathi and Sizwe, as their good working relationship has been ruined over pointless drama. Either way, we are glad Sizwe’ reputation will be saved before it could have been ruined completely.
