Unathi Nkayi had made claims of being silenced by Kaya 959 but the radio station hit back at her claims, saying she is free to speak about what transpired, provided that it is all truths.

Last week Unathi Nkayi released a statement on video where she explained her side of the story where gender based violence is concerned. “The only matter I will address because it is very important to me is the theme of GBV that keeps on coming up."
“This all started when Sizwe made reference to GBV in South Africa in one of his many posts about me, but GBV had nothing to do with the matter. I never alleged at any time that Sizwe committed any act of gender-based violence against me, Sizwe knows this, Kaya knows this,” she said.
“For the record, Sizwe and I both submitted in writing allegations against each other. “Some founded and some were found not to be, from both of us. I have handed the matter against Kaya to handle legally.
“In closing, Sizwe and I are not friends, I have decided to distance myself from him the day he decided it was okay to say on air that my marriage failed because of the way I allow my children to prepare umphokoqo wabo.”
This statement prompted a swift response from Sizwe who "proved" his "innocence" by releasing the recordings, proving that he never mentioned Unathi's children. He then released another recording of that verbal altercation between them where Unathi had claimed that Sizwe swore at her, whereas people are convinced she was the one who had apparently cussed.
Hitting back at Unathi for claiming to be silenced was Kaya 959 who wrote in statement, “Ms. Nkayi is well aware of the contents of the final communication addressed to her by Kaya 959, especially where confidentiality and perpetuating a false narrative is concerned. Ms. Nkayi is also very aware of the reasons and circumstances that led to the termination of her contract with Kaya 959, the evidence of which has been shared with her for her records.
“As per our last media release, Kaya 959 would prefer not to be drawn into a debate around the details of what transpired in the interest of both parties. However, Ms. Nkayi is free to share the details of the issue that arose between her and Kaya 959 should she feel the urge to, provided what she shares reflects the true version of events,” read the statement as quoted by Daily Sun.
This was in response to Unathi's recent statement which served as "proof" that she was allegedly "silenced." She shared a screenshot from the letter she received from HR on November 17 and it reads, “Naturally you remain bound by your confentiality obligations and are warned against utilising any platform official or unofficial to perpetuate your version of events.”
Unathi Nkayi then added that, “Kaya says that it respects the right to freedom of speech as provisioned for by the constitution and, for that reason, will not in any way attempt to restrict it for anyone.
“This was published after it attempted to restrict my speech, and after I went public on how I had been prevented from telling my side of the story. It seems Kaya only wants to value 'free speech' when it is the one controlling who says what, through legal threats,” said Unathi.
