When it comes to the law in South Africa, no one is spared (well, for the most part) this is why we've seen some of our favourite actors, actresses, singers and presenters finding themselves on the wrong side of the law. We know that sometimes it's hard to believe that a celebrity we've looked up to for years is cable of committing some of the crimes some celebs are embroiled in, but it is also important to remember that we cannot judge them until they are found guilty or vindicated.
Here's a look at some cases that had our jaws on the floor so far in 2021.
SK Khoza
Last week, The Queen Mzansi actor, Sthembiso 'SK' Khoza, found himself at the center of yet another scandal. It is alleged that the Kings of Joburg actor has a case opened against him, and one of the women who is believed to be his fiancée, after an incident that took place at a filling station last week. The cashier in question was allegedly hit by a woman who was with the actor, hit her with a scanner on the face. She claims to have sustained a black eye, bruising on her left cheek and a deep cut below the left eye. She was reported to have been taken to the Midrand Police Station by her colleagues to open a case of crimen injuria against Khoza and an assault case against the woman who hit her, while she was reportedly bleeding. However, SK came out to deny the allegations; claiming that himself and his fiancée did not assault anyone.
Zahara
When Zahara made headlines two weeks ago for being in trouble with the law, her fans were distraught. The Loliwe hitmaker was found guilty of contempt of court after she failed to appear in several court cases over tax related issues. The South African Revenue Service (SARS) bought forward a case against the Imali hitmaker. She apparently failed to appear in several court dates which then lead to a warrant of her arrest which was issued in April. As a result she faces the possibility of going to prison for four years or paying a hefty fine.
Bishop Makamu
One of the biggest, most talked about cases this year was that of revered church leader and Moja Love presenter, Bishop Israel Makamu. The man of God was accused of asking for sexual favours from a young girl during a telephonic conversation. The long-running scandal, saw many twists and turns. At some point, the Bishop and his wife were said to have offered the 21-year-old (who was 17 at the time of the incident in 2017) hush money. Makamu then came out to rubbish the accusations, claiming that he just wanted church keys. The victim eventually opened a case against the bishop, which was later alleged to have been withdrawn.
Zinhle Mabena
Zinhel Mabena's marriage to her husband Robert Ngwenya looked so beautiful on the outside, but there were lots of skeletons on the inside. The former Isibaya actress shocked many when charges were laid against her. These charges include theft and malicious damage to property, and the other two are for assault. Although two of the three charges have been dropped against Zinhle Mabena, the assualt charges were still pending. She was accused of trying to kill her ex husband on the 28 of January, but his bodyguard died instead. After spending a night under police custody, the prosecutor threw the case out and acquitted Zinhle of all these charges. The prosecutor also deemed her arrest unlawful.
