Keeping Bonang beautiful

Bonang Matheba is known for her stunning looks, which led to her becoming the new face of Revlon SA. And the man behind the beauty is her friend and collaborator, Vuyo Varoyi, who has also been hired by Revlon to bring the best out of the “It Girl”.

"I got a call from Revlon last year December to say they're looking for a local make-up artist to represent their brand. I was so excited that finally an international brand was recognising me," he told Sunday World. Varoyi tweeted that he got the best deal ever and Matheba, with whom he has worked with over the past two years, called him up.

"God just wanted us to be together. I remember I tweeted that I got the best deal ever and she called me and asked me about it and I found out about her news too. The two of us went out to celebrate that night. We were the only ones who knew and we had fun."

The 26-year old grew up in Gugulethu with four sisters - here he started experimenting with different types of colour palettes. He later studied fashion as the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and graduated from Johannesburg’s Professional School of Make-up. After landing a job at MAC, Varoyi started his own business. All that hard work culminated in this great opportunity and he is thrilled to be part of it.

"I love making people look good. I love what I do, it never feels like work. Bonang has made history locally and on the continent. People will relate more to someone they know. She's amazing and very ambitious. I get inspired every time I'm around her."

But he is not limited to only working with her: "I think a lot of people were worried that I was going to do only her face. I will still do other faces, but only with the products we endorse."
