Wearing artificial hair is a choice many (particularly black) women choose to make...
But for Uzalo's Gugu Gumede, it's not her only option. That's because the soapie actress has taken the decision to embrace her natural hair - something she never thought she would do before.
The star - who calls herself a 'natural hair enthusiast' on her IG page, takes pride in her 'fro and the natural hair journey she has taken.
Gugu spoke to Move! Magazine about her tress transition: "I used to wear wigs because I just didn’t feel beautiful without them. [but] I’m fine with my hair in its natural state."
The actress - who regularly posts pics of her hair in different styles - claims that she is trying to fight against the misconception that natural hair is not beautiful.
She added: "Beauty is so subjective. It is definitely a state of mind. Beauty has to be an internal thing; you cannot think beauty is someone’s stamp of approval or validation of who you are.
"Women send me messages and thank me for inspiring them to change how they see themselves especially when in their natural hair."
Gugu is not the only star to be praised for wearing her hair in its natural state.
Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi has become the current face of natural hair. She's been credited for promoting the natural hair movement and for reminding women that your natural hair is enough!
