The doors of learning open tonight on SABC1's popular sudser Skeem Saam, and there are new Turfloop Highschool learners in town. We love to see it when our favorite soapies open up the industry and introduce our audience to new talented actors.
Mzansi is home to several talented young thespians and they are just a pure marvel to watch. They have a way of pulling the audience into their intense and raw presentation of their performance -be it on screen or stage.
Skeem Saam is the latest soapie to cast fresh talent. The show has always been at the forefront of turning newcomers into household names in the industry and we are here for it. Since its debut, the Skeem Saam has covered many social ills such as teenage pregnancy, teenage drinking, alcohol abuse, bullying father absenteeism and many others.

Tonight five new Turfloop leaners are set to make their debut and they are set to shake things up on the soapie. The new faces are Mahlatse (Phillip Thobejane), Letetswe (Mahlatse Moropo), Lewatle (Mosa Nkwashu) and Mosebjadi (Zizo Sobhutyu). As they make their highly anticipated debut this evening, all eyes will be glued to the small screen.
Speaking to SowetanLIVE Mosa Nkwashu, who portrays the character of Lewatle, said she's excited to be making her acting debut. She says it's going to be the next big step in her career.
“There are so many emotions running through my body but I’m mostly feeling overwhelmed, yet honoured. I'm super-excited because it’s my first time appearing on TV and this is about to be a new stepping stone in my journey,” she said.
Thabiso Molokomme who plays Paxton said "I know that Skeem Saam will change my life, but at the same time will enable me to inspire so many young people in a positive way, not only from my province [Limpopo] but our continent,” said Molokomme.
The soapie recently celebrated 10 years on air and SABC 1 expressed just how proud they are of the soapie and it's success. "The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its highly popular SABC 1 drama series Skeem Saam. Since its first episode on 13 October 2011, Skeem Saam, whose main premise examines the plight of today’s male children and the tough challenges they face transitioning into manhood, has tackled educational content which has kept South African audiences captivated."
Skeem Saam creator and producer Winnie Seriti, said, “We are proud to be affiliated with the SABC, a broadcaster that has taken pride in giving local Productions, Writers and Talent a platform for so many years. We started out wanting to make a difference in the lives of the people that watch our soapie, but we never anticipated the significant impact we would make to society through this programme.
"10 years later, our audiences remain loyal to us, helping us continue to tell relevant stories to millions of South African across the country, and shining a light on current issues that affect our youth today. Here’s to many more years together, as we continue to change the lives of people season after season!”
