Since it's inception, Uzalo has captured the attention of many people. As the story progressed, characters came and went but the numbers kept rising - it is the most watched show on television. Despite it being the most watched, social media users have always expressed how unimpressed they have been with the characters and the storyline in general.

Their complaints did not go unheard as the SABC gave Uzalo producers a stern warning to spice up their storyline. They are doing just that and so much more! Since the feisty and staunch MaNgcobo played by Dawn Thandeka King is exiting the show, producers are apparently worried that their TV ratings will take a dip once again and lose millions of viewers once more.
Coming from the horses mouth, apparently, Khaya Dladla who was everyone's favourite, told Daily Sun that they are returning on set. Who's they you might be wondering, well TK Dlamini, Nay Maps, as well as Nokuthula Mabika, are all making their big return this year.
“I’m not sure when I’m going to appear on TV, but we have agreed to come back to Uzalo. I’m preparing to be on set soon,” Khaya told Daily Sun.
Even Baby Cele, who will also be exiting the telenovela for a brief moment announced this on the national airwave. During her interview with Ukhozi FM, Baby who played Gabisile Mdletshe announced on the radio station that these characters would be returning. “Good news for Uzalo actors as GC, Thobile, Mxo and Mastermind are coming back to the show.”
Also leaving the show is Siyabonga Shibe who plays Qhabanga however his exit is permanent. Even though he posted a very cryptic message on Instagram, "I Am excited for the future and to go back to my family. They are awaiting for my arrival after a 4 year journey. I miss being at my house and do house chores taking care of my woman and son, and rest for few days. Then back at it after. The future is bright."
With these big characters leaving, Uzalo's production team is trembling at what could happen to their already dwindling numbers. The Broadcast Research Council of South Africa revealed that Uzalo's viewership dropped dramatically to a very low 8.8 million viewers. Even though Uzalo's team denied that trouble was brewing, shooting season 7 dragged a bit so the show can resolve their differences with the SABC.
We are hopeful that the re-casting of these characters will bring the team at ease and hopefully bring back their old viewers and rope in many others.
