With just ten days remaining before the 11th edition of the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, the organisers have named five corporate partners, a move that highlights growing business confidence in one of Africa’s best-known road-running events.

The Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN), Petralon Energy, Razzl Drink, Dan Oil and Carloha Motors will sponsor the 2026 race, which is set for Saturday, May 30, in Okpekpe, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Race Director Zack Amodu said the fresh sponsorships reflect the event’s upward trajectory and its influence beyond the track and road.

“We are delighted to welcome DBN, Petralon, Razzl, Dan Oil, and Carloha Motors as partners for the 11th edition. Their support, alongside the backing of Edo State, not only strengthens the race but also reinforces its role as a platform for promoting excellence, youth empowerment, and community development,” Amodu said.

Organisers have also announced Dr Adebukola Bojuwoye as the head of the medical unit for this year’s staging. Dr Bojuwoye, a highly experienced medical professional with extensive involvement in road-racing events across Nigeria, will lead emergency medical coverage, manage first-aid points along the route, oversee medical volunteers and paramedics, and ensure the safety of both elite and recreational runners as well as spectators.

Now organised by Pamodzi Sports Marketing Company, the Okpekpe race has continued to build momentum since it became the first road race in Nigeria to receive World Athletics label status in 2015. It later progressed to Gold Label Race standing, and in the process has drawn elite athletes from across the world.

Edo State, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated its commitment to supporting the event, pointing to the race’s ability to boost tourism, strengthen community pride and put the region in the international spotlight.

More than a sporting fixture, the competition has also developed into a driver of social, health and economic gains—encouraging fitness and healthier living, promoting stronger community ties, and stimulating spending through tourism, hospitality and local trade.

The 11th edition is expected to bring together top-tier runners, local participants and international attention, further reinforcing Nigeria’s presence on the global athletics calendar.
