Marc Guéhi is now an injury worry for England with their World Cup quarter-final against Norway looming in Miami, after the centre-back picked up a hamstring problem, with concerns growing over his availability for the match.
Guéhi hamstring scare before Norway clash
Guéhi, a key figure in Thomas Tuchel’s defensive setup, managed to finish England’s round-of-16 match against Mexico. However, reports indicate the Manchester City defender has been dealing with hamstring discomfort during the current week and did not take part in training on Thursday.
England are set to travel to Miami to continue preparations for a decisive quarter-final. If Guéhi fails to train again in Florida, he would become a major doubt to start at centre-back on Saturday.
Defensive options after Mexico win
With Guéhi’s situation under scrutiny, England have further personnel choices following their dramatic 3-2 victory at the Azteca.
- John Stones appeared from the bench during the win over Mexico.
- Dan Burn also came on as a substitute in the same match.
Both players could provide ready-made alternatives if Guéhi is not fit to begin against Norway.
Rice fitness also under review
Tuchel is also monitoring another availability question, with Declan Rice missing a second consecutive training session on Thursday.
Rice’s absence is linked to a bug, adding to the list of fitness matters to be resolved before England’s quarter-final in Miami.
