Kelechi Iheanacho has credited “divine” help for Celtic’s stunning title success, insisting the “God of Soccer” guided the club to one of the most remarkable championships in recent times.
The Nigerian forward, clearly emotional during his post-match interview, said the achievement went beyond belief after it looked as though Celtic had let the trophy slip away.
“I’m so, so happy today. It was unbelievable. At some point, everyone thought we had lost it, but the God of Soccer was on our side and we won. We fought till the end,” Iheanacho said in comments to Celtic TV.
He also reflected on a season that has swung wildly from moment to moment, suggesting the campaign itself deserves to be documented.
“This season has been a crazy, crazy season. This should be on a documentary. It’s a crazy season. But at the end, God crowned us with victory,” he added.
Iheanacho then saved special praise for the trophy, branding it a “drama trophy” that mirrors the unpredictable twists of Celtic’s run to the title.
“This trophy is so, so special. I don’t know how many trophies Celtic has won over the years, but this particular one should be called a drama trophy. It’s a crazy, crazy trophy,” he said.
Before concluding, the striker offered a message to the supporters, urging the whole of Glasgow to relish the moment while he and the squad turn their focus to next season.
“The fans will enjoy it. The whole city of Glasgow should enjoy it. Hopefully we will come back next season and be strong,” Iheanacho said.
